Survey Of North Beach Ano Nuevo, California

As I volunteer for FMSA Farallones Marine Sanctuary Association I and fellow volunteers survey several Northern California Beaches.

On August 2nd we did North Beach in Ano Nuevo State Reserve, a beach that is not accessible to the general public due to large numbers of Northern Elephant Seals present.

Here we were treated to about 3 pairs of bulls apparently having mock battles.

A special treat was to see 2 Glaucous Gulls on the beach, I was able to photograph one, see below.

Photographed Black-footed Albatross in Monterey Bay with leg bands. I called the Bird Banding Office in Marland and left a message. I would like to know where the bird was banded and how old it is. Most likely it was banded on Midway Island!

Monterey Bay Pelagic Trip

Pelagic Trip 7/24/2011.

Went on 1/2 day Pelagic trip out of Monterey California with Monterey Seabirds led by Roger Wolfe. Although overcast , I saw close up views of 2 Blue Whales, and about 5 Humpback Whales. Birds of interest were Black-footed Albatross, Sooty Shearwaters, Pink-footed Shearwaters, Norther Fulmars and Sabine's Gulls.

All-in-all, a great trip!
