Human Species,  a good citizen of planet earth or just a brief anomaly that self destructed?

About five years ago I got interested in history and started studying mostly World War II history, then I checked out World War I, the Civil War, the revolutionary war, the Boer war, the Napoleonic wars and on and on. I am not an historical expert but the more I look into history it seems mostly about fighting, conflicts, religion and wars. Since I was born at the end of World War II in the United States, I’ve seen the Korean War, the Vietnam war, the Iraq wars, the Iran and Iraq wars, the Israel wars, and the Ukraine war. all my life I’ve heard about how special the human species is and how they are so much more intelligent than all other species! Of course humans say this, I’ve never heard of an outside or independent verification of this? So I seriously question the goodness, intelligence and value of the human species, I see lots of violence and destruction that doesn’t match the rhetoric! I see in my country mindless adoration for dictators, war criminals, and the worst of humanity. Not at all different than the same vacuous crowds Nazi saluting Hitler 80 years ago! There has been astonishing technical advancement in those 80 years, but intellectual, psychological and just plain spiritual growth is still wallowing in the Middle Ages! So is the human species a good citizen of planet earth or just a brief anomaly that self destructed?
